Pro-US Shi'i sectarian militias burn 14 Sunni students with sulfuric acid, drill holes in their heads with electric drills. Families must bribe ambulance drivers to get bodies of tortured murdered loved ones.

In a dispatch posted at 8:55pm Makkah time Sunday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fourteen bodies of Sunni youths who had been savagely tortured and murdered were delivered on Sunday to the Forensic Medicine Center in central Baghdad's Bab al-Mu'azzam district. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported families of the victims area said that all 14 were college students who were about to finish up and graduate. But on Friday, 23 June, pro-American Shi'i sectarian militiamen, wearing the uniform of the American-backed Iraqi puppet army, arrested them from their homes in the predominantly Hur Rajab section of Baghdad and took them away. Their bodies showed up Sunday in the Forensic Medicine Department where the medical experts issued a report saying that the victims had been burned with concentrated sulfuric acid and electric drills were used to punch holes in their skulls.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the families were only able to retrieve the bodies of their sons by paying two ambulance drivers a million Iraqi dinars to get them out of the morgue. Pro-American Shi'i sectarian militias have positioned themselves around hospitals for about one month, ready to arrest Sunnis who come to pick up the bodies of their loved ones. This has prevented Sunni families from being able to recover bodies of relatives tortured and murdered by the sectarian militias that operate with the backing of the US occupation regime. The families in Hur Rajab therefore collected a million Iraqi dinars as a bribe to pay the ambulance drivers so that they might bring the bodies of the victims to a neutral place in the occupied Iraqi capital where the relatives would be able to recover them.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a highly placed source who asked to remain anonymous as claiming that serious and high-level talks were under way and that 30 commanders of the Iraqi Army from before the US invasion including men with the rank of Lieutenant General, Major General, and Brigadier General were taking part in the discussions along with the American occupation commanders.

The source alleged that the talks are focused on several issues, including returning officers in the former Iraqi Army to their posts and giving them their back pay for the period from 9 April 2003 until the present. Other points under discussion include the hand over of command in the American-created Iraqi puppet forces to the Iraqi commanders from the pre-invasion era. Another point on the agenda under discussion is the release of all the currently-imprisoned Iraqi officers naval, air force, and ground forces in return for a complete halt of their military and material support for the Iraqi Resistance, and an effort to convince the Resistance to lay down its weapons and join the US-sponsored political system, in which Resistance commanders would be given governmental posts. The source told Mafkarat al-Islam that the negotiations were still underway on a daily basis, having begun three days earlier.
