National Security Has Never
Been A 'Divine Right'

Jim Kirwan
8-26-7

A few weeks ago I wrote about the idea that America apparently now has a King, not openly of course but in reality, because Monarch's were a major part of medieval times: that for the idea of a King to have taken root in the American government of today-seemed ridiculous.

Recently one of John Pilger's documentaries was released on the web. This one is "The War on Democracy" and it deals with American foreign policy, as those polices were applied in Central and South America over the last fifty plus years. During an interview with Duane Claridge (the head of the CIA's Latin American Division in the early nineteen-eighties) the following exchange takes place:

John Pilger: "What right have you; the CIA - the United States government or any foreign power: What right do you have to do what you do in other countries?"

Duane Claridge: "National Security Interests."
JP: "But that's a 'Divine Right' isn't it-because the people that you do it to have no say in this."

DC: "Well that's just tough we are gonna protect ourselves and we're gonna go on protecting ourselves, cause we end up protecting all of you. And let's not forget that! We'll intervene whenever we decide it's in our National Security interests to intervene-and if you don't like it-lump it!
Git used to it world, we're not gonna put up with nonsense. If our interests are threatened we're gonna do it!"

Of course a lot of Americans might think that "National Security" involves a whole lot more than just stealing other people's countries or killing anyone that does not agree to be taken over. Real national security ought to be based on the welfare of the entire population and not merely on the phenomenal criminal wealth of those international elites that benefit directly from these fascistically brutal policies.

Blind arrogance was the reason why the world outlawed many of the policies and practices of this administration, decades before Cheney-Bush was born. But the facts of law and international policy have never bothered these extremists-these new American Capitalists that have appointed themselves to rule the planet. What this government has become, in their zeal to complete their Empire, has taught them to use fascism to force political changes in the world: That's the Fascism that Cheney-Bush calls 'democracy.'

With the coming of the North American Union the White House now wants to bring the kinds of changes, which the film clearly illustrates, to Canada and Mexico as well as to what used to be the United States. This might prove to be much tougher than they think.

The film covers the CIA attack upon Chile: launched on September 11, 1973. This brutal invasion was called a "coup d'etat" and it brought back the Inquisition this time to overthrow a democratically elected government. After beginning under Pinochet as a fascist dictatorship in the seventies, Chile was selected in the 1980's to become the new American model for conquered nation-states. 'On the surface everything seemed 'normal'-modern, prosperous-but life had been privatized and the rich are getting richer.' This: thanks to Milton Friedman and his "Chicago Boys" who restructured Chile's economy and called it "Shock Therapy." Chile today appears to be the new model for privatization that will be used to undercut Canada and Mexico and the USA if the NAU becomes a fact. That's why the history matters in Pilger's film. What came to Latin America unbidden-is about to come back to haunt the people of the 'United' States who have profited directly from these same crimes for so many decades.

However The War on Democracy also shows how the USA and it's partisan institutions have been stopped in Latin America-Big-time-on at least two occasions.

In Venezuela, in 2002 the ordinary people rejected the American backed Coup against Chavez. They came out from their slums in their tens of thousands and demanded the return of their elected leader. The military changed sides to join them, and Hugo Chavez was returned to his presidential palace.

In 2000 the people of Bolivia fought the American company Bechtel that had privatized their water-and the people of the streets finally won.
In 2003-those same Bolivian people finally took back their country from the American puppet that had been running it, when they descended in their tens of thousands from the slums to overwhelmingly elect one of their own: Eva Morales to the presidency. All in all this film presents us with a lot to think about, in these times, where the new fascists are now seeking to bring their dreams of privatization to all of North America.

If this policy were being inflicted anywhere else, it would be pawned off on the resistant people as just another mandatory regime-change. But if the ordinary populations of these three nations that comprise North America, do not firmly resist this brutal sham of privatization, then the NAU will become every bit as subservient as Chile has been for all of the thirty-four years that they have remained an artificially-created slave-state. (1)

There are two other massive crimes that were used against the people of the United States: These did not directly create the climate in which our criminal Latin American policies were formed-but their existence undermined all the laws of this country-because they illegally imposed taxes upon the citizens of the US and almost simultaneously gave away our ability to print and control our own money to a foreign consortium of international bankers. This 'Jekyll Island deal' resulted in the illegal-creation of the Federal Reserve.

The film by Aaron Russo speaks for itself. Aaron died yesterday, but his legacy gave the people of the United States some critically absent facts, that we might use, to take back much of what has been stolen from all of us. (2)

Herb Keinon, THE JERUSALEM POST  Aug 23, 2007
A survey by a respected journal showing that 15 of 108 foreign policy elites in the US believe Israel does not serve US national security interests has raised eyebrows in Jerusalem. . . . Forty-five [out of 108] of the respondents described themselves as Democrats, 24 as Republicans, and the rest as Independents.

A Boycott Of Israel: Something Has Changed
John Pilger, New Statesman, UK  Aug 23, 2007
[Editor A.N. -- Veteran Australian war correspondent and BBC filmmaker, John Pilger, has covered the Middle East for four decades.] "The ethnic cleansing of Palestine is as much America's crusade as Israel's. On 16 August, the Bu sh administration announced an unprecedented $30bn military "aid package" for Israel, the world's fourth biggest military power, an air power greater than Britain, and a nuclear power greater than France. No other country on earth enjoys such immunity, allowing it to act without sanction, as Israel. No other country has such a record of lawlessness: not one of the world's tyrannies comes close. International treaties, such as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, ratified by Iran, are ignored by Israel. There is nothing like it in UN history. But something is changing. . . . The swell of a boycott is growing inexorably, as if an important marker has been passed, reminiscent of the boycotts that led to sanctions against apartheid South Africa. . . . In Britain, an often Jewish-led academic campaign against Israel's "methodical destruction of [the Palestinian] education system" can be translated by those of us who have reported from the occupied territories into the arbi trary closure of Palestinian universities, the harassment and humiliation of students at checkpoints and the shooting and killing of Palestinian children on their way to school."

Gross: Bush needs to rescue homeowners
CNNMoney.com  Aug 23, 2007
Editor CE- A Wall Street bond tycoon asks for a billion dollar gift with a straight face. Bring out the tar and feathers for Mr. Bill Gross, his idea i s a fraud on those of you who did not borrow too much to buy too big a home purchased from someone at too high a price. Gross, a bond speculator with other people's money,  is pretending that the money printed at the FED is free and no one has to repay it. Not so, it is economics 101 inflation...there is a payback time. Not only is it criminal to bail out home investors with printed money, but it will not work; there is no way to sort out which ones are innocent moms and dads caught in speculative craze and which ones are rank speculators buying three or even thirty houses with no money down, with the hope of a fast profit. If the truth was known, Mr. Gross probably is one of the latter, I wonder how many mortgage derivative bonds he owns? He says: "This rescue, which admittedly might bail out speculators who deserve much worse, would support millions of hard-working Americans whose recent hours have become ones of f rantic desperation." Gross, a founder of the fixed-income investment firm PIMCO and a columnist for Fortune."

A TALE OF TWO CITIES: WARSAW AND GAZA
Benjamin Heine, Desert Peace, Israel  Aug 23, 2007
No one seems to hear the cries from Warsaw enough to act, despite the reports that talk about imminent economic collapse, dangerous food shortages, total aid dependency and impending humanitarian disaster. Neither the cries nor the reports appear in the headlines or news alerts in our mainstream media." [Editor A.N. Why do Christian Evangelical pastors support a repeat of this horror in the 21st Century in Jesus' name? What Israel is doing to the Palestinians is barbaric, inhumane, and a crime against humanity. Israel has 6 million people. 4.8 million are Russian émigrés who took advantage of US generosity to get them out of Russia.

Progress called "extremely disappointing and frustrating to all
Associated Press  Aug 23, 2007
Updated report states: "finding some progress but judging that the Baghdad government may not be able to carry it forward, a defense official said Thursday"..."U.S. spy community concluded that Iraqi leaders will be hard p ressed to craft a lasting political settlement or improve their security capabilities in the next year and a half."

Our Congratulations to the People of Turkey
Israel Shamir  Aug 23, 2007
"Our congratulations to the people of Turkey on the election victory of the Islamic Party! This is a fateful event: the East returns to God, and finds its own way. Istanbul has followed Gaza: the AKP-ruled Turkey will be a friend to Hamas-ruled Palestine, to Islamic Iran, to Orthodox Greece and Russia, to the religious anti-occupation forces of nearby Iraq. She will again take her place of pride as the centerpiece of the Eastern mosaic, while its pro-American and God-hating generals, the Turkish Dahlans, will creep back to their barracks. Faith in God unites us, while the nationalists had divided us."

The Great Middle East Peace Process Scam
Henry Siegman, London Review of Books  Aug 21, 2007
[Editor A.N. -- <http://www.lrb.co.uk/contribhome.php?get=sieg01>Henry Siegman, the director of the US/ Middle East Project, served as a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations from 1994 to 2006, and head of the American Jewish Congress from 1978 to 1994. "If the US and its allies were to take a stand forceful enough to persuade Israel that it will not be allowed to make changes to the pre-1967 situation except by agreement with the Palestinians in permanent status negotiations, there would be no need for complicated peace formulas or celebrity mediators to get a peace process underway. The only thing that an envoy such as Blair can do to put the peace process back on track is to speak the truth about the real impediment to peace. This would also be a historic contribution to the Jewish state, since Israel's only hope of real long-term security is to have a successful Palestinian state as its neighbor."

Settlers cut Palestinian water supply to fill swimming pool
Ronny Shaked, Ynetnews, Israel  Aug 21, 2007
Residents of the settlement of Elon Moreh in the West Bank have cut a pipe carrying drinking water to a nearby Palestinian village, and are using it to fill a small swimming pool located at a picnic site, which w as itself built on land owned by the village. The pipe, which carries water to the village of Dir al-Khatab, was rerouted in order to fill the pool. The pipe channels fresh drinking water into the pool and drains dirty water back into the village's water system. "They not only use water that doesn't belong to them, but they also pollute the drinking water of some of the village residents," said Yoel Marshak, head of the Kibbutz Movement's Special Assignments Branch. "The little kids pee in the water, which flows straight to the taps of the Palestinian school."

Christians, Jews in Holy Land alliance
CNN  Aug 21, 2007
Christian Zionists often converge on Washington by the thousands to lobby members of Congress in support of Israel. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Connecticut, was among the speakers at last month's convention of Christians United for Israel. "There are a lot more Christian Zionists in America than Jewish Zionists," A recent poll found that 59 percent of American evangelicals believe Israel is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimates 85 million evangelicals believe God tells them to support Israel - more than six times the world's Jewish population.

Arutz Shevy, Israel National News Service  Aug 21, 2007
"An IAF helicopter struck a car full of Islamic Jihad terrorists between Khan Younis and the Kissufim Crossing Tuesday, killing at least three terrorists. According to the IDF, the men had been involved in shooting attacks on IDF soldiers in recent weeks along the Gaza border fence. Six Hamas terrorists were killed and one more wounded in an air strike on their pick-up truck as it drove though central Gaza's al-Bureij neighborhood Monday evening. One of the men was a local Hamas commander, Muhammed Abu Arab."

Can You Hear the Cries from Gaza?
Sonja Karkar  Aug 20, 2007
Grim as the facts and figures are, they can never make us feel the agony of the mother who does not have a grain of rice left to feed her starving children, the desperation of the father who cannot get his sick child through the closed border crossing for t reatment in Egypt, the terror of the child who wets the bed every night wondering if the soldiers will come again to ransack the house, the constant fear of schoolchildren knowing that even school is no haven from soldiers' bullets and mortar fire, the despairing distress of families who are not even given time to save their belongings as bulldozers come to tear down their homes, the desolation of thousands of people with no jobs to go to, the helplessness of thousands more who have received no wages for months and the wretchedness of the starving families who depend on the jobless and the unpaid. An entire population is in shut down--more than a million stories of agonizing pain and overwhelming grief. But, no one is hearing the cries.
