This afternoon Senate liberals tried to attach so-called "hate crimes" legislation to the defense department authorization bill by a unanimous consent agreement, but Sen. John McCain objected. Moments later, Sen. Ted Kennedy took the floor and explained that he was trying to attach the hate crimes legislation to the defense bill because, "The defense authorization bill is dealing with the challenges of terrorism and the hate crimes issueWe're talking about domestic terrorism"

 This means that the hate bill will be considered by the Senate as early as Wednesday morning. YOU MUST ACT IMMEDIATELY, calling your Senator to protest. Also, at www.truthtellers.org is the list of 37 Senators who should be called. Unfortunately, most large new right organizations, trusting that the President will veto the hate bill, have not encouraged calling at this critical time. This means that YOU must make up the difference, letting members of the Senate know that you will not stand for establishment of a hate crimes bureaucracy in America, taking away free speech.
