- WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Gold
Kist, Inc., one of the biggest poultry processors in the United States,
has voluntarily recalled about 210 tons of chicken products because of
possible pesticide contamination, the U.S. Agriculture Department said
on Wednesday.
-
- The recall involves chicken products sold nationwide
to distributors and retail stores, including Wal-Mart Supercenter stores,
a USDA statement said.
-
- The products were produced on Jan. 29 and are marked
with the establishment number ``P-17890'' inside the USDA seal of
inspection,
the agency said.
-
- The chicken products may be contaminated with the
pesticide
Aldicarb which, at high concentrations, can cause weakness, headache,
nausea,
vomiting and seizures, the USDA said.
-
- No illnesses have been reported from the tainted food,
the USDA said.
-
- It did not elaborate on how the chicken may have been
contaminated. Officials at Gold Kist, a Sumter, S.C.-based firm, could
not be reached for comment.
