- In the latest issue of Newsweek, April 13, 2009, Fareed
Zakaria wrote, "Free at Last: How to achieve genuine energy independence."
-
- Zakaria said, "We need an energy policy that understands
that the world is going to require much more energy in the future. The
math is pretty simple. "Today there are 6.7 billion people on earth.
By 2050 there will be 9.2 billion. We will have to use twice as much energy
as we do today."
-
- He wrote about the incredible waste and pollution worldwide.
Zakaria painted a horrible picture.
-
- He said, "The solution is to be smarter about how
we grow. We can create more economic growth, 30 to 40 percent more, while
using the same amount of energy."
-
- To that ridiculous statement, I say balderdash, rubbish,
twaddle, claptrap and tripe.
-
- "Greater efficiency will lead to a more sustainable
model for growth," Zakaria said.
-
- That model remains the modus operandi of a cancer cell:
keep growing until you kill the host. Sustainable growth is an oxymoron
and not sustainable. A sixth grader knows you can only pour so much water
into a glass before it overflows. It's called 'carrying capacity' and this
finite planet carries limitations whether humans like it or not.
-
- Zakaria thinks in 20th century paradigms that cannot
and will not succeed in the 21st century. He's a walking anachronism with
a computer. He's dangerous if not inept beyond comprehension!
-
- Another two or three billion people create an unsustainable
future. He needed to recommend a "U.S. National Sustainable Population
Policy." The U.S. cannot grow another 100 million in 30 years and
world cannot grow another three billion without horrific damage to the
planet and ultimately to the human race and all other creatures.

-
- Dear Newsweek editors:
-
- Re: "Free at Last: how to achieve genuine energy
independence." Zakaria 4/8/09
-
- Zakaris described horrible future dilemmas facing humans
in 40 years with an added 3.0 billion people. He urged readers to 'grow
more human population' smarter! He said we could achieve 30 to 40 percent
more economic growth using the same amounts of energy. Balderdash! Zakaria
neglected to consider climate change, species extinction, quality of life,
water shortages and a dozen other calamities facing humanity IF it continues
growing its numbers. Zakaria needs to pull his mind out of the 20th century
and offer solutions for the 21st century. Try a "U.S. Sustainable
Population Policy" that may lead other countries to face the future
by living within the carrying capacity of their civilizations and the planet.
