Our Extraordinary Dream Killer

Thanks to Obama's unique style of breaking promises a new series of columns must be added to our fact-checker's notebooks. Instead of just listing the promised policies with a yes or no blank to be filled in with the date-we must add some other columns: "Retracted," "Withdrawn," "Reconfigured" and Reversed.

In this way the public that loves to check facts can keep track, not just of how many campaign promises were kept, but they can also keep track of just how far from what was promised, the 'leader' in question has not only strayed: But using these columns it can be definitely shown, exactly how often Obama has actually done the exact-opposite of what he initially promised prospective voters.

Those that looked to this Obamanation to fulfill their dreams have finally begun to realize that Obama is, in reality, the main blunt-instrument being used as the Dream-Killer for hundreds of millions of people, regardless of the category of government action in which he was expected to act-in exactly the opposite way; on every path where he continues to frustrate and condemn the will of the public to lives of total servitude; without any hope of anything that might ever alter these lifelong sentences' of destitution.

Today on Democracy Now: "On the campaign trail, Obama had promised to open up NAFTA to renegotiations. But he's backed off that pledge since taking office, blaming the global economic meltdown. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Obama said, quote, "At a time when the economy has been shrinking drastically and trade has been shrinking around the worldwe probably want to make the economy more stabilized in the coming months before we have a long discussion around further trade negotiations," he said.
Obama's reversal on NAFTA has come under criticism from labor and human rights groups. In Mexico, NAFTA has been blamed for squeezing out small Mexican farmers, depressing wages, and spurring waves of immigration to the United States. Before the summit, a group of protesters gathered at the US embassy in Mexico and called on Obama to uphold his campaign pledge."

". . .in the last three years, since 2005, this initiative that was undertaken by Bush, by former President Bush, by former President Fox and Martin from Canada, the only invited stakeholder to these talks were big businesses. They formed this ad hoc group called the North American Competitiveness Council, in which only thirty big corporations of North America gave-used to give any input to the presidents, and this was what led the agenda of the tri-national relations for three years.

What we're seeing now is somehow continuity, because previous to Guadalajara, to the Guadalajara summit, there wasn't any consultation at all to civil society organizations, to small businesses, to farmers, to human rights groups, about what should lead the agenda for North America. This is also a reason why I think this has been a missed opportunity. And it is discouraging when President Obama has-had declared during his campaign that in the first year of office he would conduct the summits with Mexico and Canada in a different way than President Bush used to do, inviting civil society organizations, inviting small businesses, inviting all stakeholders of society, to give input and participate in the discussions of the tri-national agenda and the future of North America."

And this critical additional point made in the same set of interviews:

"We think-I think, and the people I work with, that more than continued collaboration, which is what the presidents pledged to in Guadalajara, and more than continued collaboration, what is required is to instruct health authorities in the respective countries to investigate the conditions that have led to the emergence of the H1N1 flu virus, also known as the swine virus.

And it's also known as the NAFTA virus, because there is evidence that has been uncovered today that suggests that the massive US-owned hog-raising operations were shifted to Mexico once NAFTA started being implemented in 1994, and big US companies moved their operations to Mexico to make the most of lack of environmental regulations. So this is why, you know, ground zero was located in this area of Veracruz in Perote, where these farms with draconian health conditions and environmental regulations were operating. And this is where the-one of the places where the flu started-started disseminating.

So, what we say is that what we need to see is the roots, the roots of the crisis of the flu, of this flu crisis, that is going to intensify in the Northern Hemisphere in the next fall, instead of just looking for only very inefficient solutions." (1)

Here is a partial list of some excerpts from the 1,018 page health-care bill that is contained in the second footnote below.

Then there's the War Against Drugs that has become a major series of deceptive practices that are continuing to destroy Mexico and the US as never before.

"On Monday President Obama praised the Mexican government for its handling of the Drug War. "I have great confidence in President Calderon's administration applying the law enforcement techniques that are necessary to curb the power of the Cartels, but do it in a way that's consistent with Human Rights. And - we discussed this in our by-lateral meeting, and I am confident that as the national police are trained - as the a the coordination between the military and local police officials is improved; there is going to be increased transparency and accountability, and that human rights will be observed." Sounds tame enough, but here's what he is covering up!

Charles Bowden responding to Obama's comments on the human rights record in the drug war: "Yes it's utter nonsense. There have been hundreds of complaints in Chi Wawa alone, filed against the army on human rights grounds. . . . The reporter is seeking political asylum (here) because the Mexican army is trying to kill him. He has to keep moving in this country because of these threats. What the US government is doing is pretending the Mexican army is some 'partner' in some war-against-drugs; when in fact what's going on in Mexico is a war-for-drugs, as the economy collapses. The army has moved in and taken over police departments all over the country. It's moved into the state governments' since this war initiated by president Calderon started in December of 2006, 12,000 Mexicans have been slaughtered, but only 72 soldiers have died: Which was a very strange thing to call "a War Against Drugs."

Democracy Now, "Can you talk about what the initiatives that would fund the Mexican government $1.4 billion, I believe it is the army has been brought into this war very heavily and you've been very critical of the Mexican Army could you talk about their role in this?"

CB: "What they have done is moved in, in a sort of silent coup. I'll give you an example they've moved into Ciudad Juarez a city of a million and a half and the murder rate has exploded there. There are eight to ten thousand federal troops and federal police now in Juarez. In 2007 there were 300 murders there, a record for the city; but in 2008 there were 1,600 people slaughtered. This year there's been over twelve hundred people slaughtered. That's the achievement of the Mexican Army every place they go they've terrified people. The soldiers run amuck do whatever they want and of course anybody that uses drugs in this country knows the shipments still arrive on time. We're fated now, or committed, to give them half-a-billion a year; it's pretty hard to tell or explain to anybody sane what we're getting for the money except more gore and more drugs."

DN: "Could you tell us about the Mexican Police Commander that you've also profiled who worked out of Juarez who also worked as a paid assassin:"

CB: "Yeah he's worked out of Juarez, he's killed hundreds of people, he was a commander in charge of the anti-kidnapping units there he was trained in the United States by the FBI and for twenty years he was a professional killer. He told me he could lead me; he personally dug two-hundred and fifty graves in Juarez, and he could lead me to where 600 bodies were hidden in death houses and he is almost the living model of the seamless web that's operated from Mexico between the drug industry and the government, they're co-dependent.

What people have to understand is that Mexico would collapse without drug money. Our agencies estimate that Mexico earns thirty to fifty billion dollars a year in foreign currency selling drugs and remittances for foreign workers here is the number two official source of currency and that's about twenty-twenty-five billion. The drug industry is essential, it's penetrated the whole culture, and it isn't going away, and nobody is going to destroy it. I'll give you another statistic; the consumption of drugs in Mexico has exploded. Last week a public health official in Juarez, a city of a million and a half says; there are at least one-hundred and fifty thousand addicts in that city.

Look at it this way, trying to eradicate drugs in Mexico is like trying to eradicate gambling in Las Vegas, it is the economy; it's the unspoken part of the economy. And there's one final thing that has to be considered: Forty percent of the federal budget in Mexico comes from oil and oil comes from Pemex. The oil fields are collapsing the Mexican government by its own statements says that it'll be functionally gone in nine years. That makes drugs yet more important to the survival of the society." (3)

Of course what Bowden has so thoroughly documented here is the Petri dish that we are now beginning to install across the US, as we are turning ever more heavily towards federal police and the military to both arm and augment city and county police forces throughout the USA, as a way to fill in the gaps when local communities can no longer pay local cops. The entirely criminal behavior of so many 'cops' and enforcement officers in this country should be seen in the direct light of what has been happening in Mexico's Dirty war "against drugs." We must demand that murder and torture committed by officers, while in custody, become a major-crimes section in every police department in the US!

Obama the Dream-Killer is at the center of all these reversals from War in the Middle-east, to health-care, from unemployment to the phony bailouts that have left the nation with 39 trillion in unpayable debt, just to bailout the bankers and the Insurance companies. Next month there will be a bank holiday that will ostensibly 'adjust' the value of our money to compensate for these outrageous debts that Obama was brought in to quell; but which he has instead chosen to explode upon an unsuspecting America! Obama ran 'against' Bush, and condemned the Cheney-Bush polices all the way down the line: before he was selected. After he took office however, he not only kept all the policies from Gitmo to signing statements, but added a few of his own inept additions as well: How many more lies will it take before anyone is ever to be held to account for anything in this so-called nation?
