FBI Says 2001 Anthrax
'Case Closed' - Congress Disagrees
From Patricia Doyle, PhD
3-3-10

Hello Jeff - Bruce Ivins may have been quirky and odd but that does not mean he was the sole perp in the 2001 Anthrax Case. Stephen Hatfill was equally as quirky but we learned that he had been exonerated and rightfully received compensation for the horror that the FBI put him through, although the compensation cannot give him his life back. The FBI put quite a few scientists through hell and had many informing on one another.

Dr. Ivins death did the FBI a favor, gave them an opportunity to say "case closed." Well, Congress is not ready to close the case and the FBI and DOJ may have to keep digging.

I am not convinced, on the face of the evidence, that Dr. Ivins was the Anthrax attacker. I feel the FBI has the wrong man, just as they had with Dr. Hatfill and Dr. Berry (Dr. Berry never being charged but the FBI leaked his name to the press)

The evidence is weak, the strongest argument for his being the attacker is the flask in his lab. Plenty of people had access to that flask. Because he was so quirky and admittedly downright odd, he made a good subject for the investigation. He may have had some mental problems, even worsening problems but that still does not mean he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. I still have doubt and want a "real" investigation to take place, and let the chips fall where they may.

I wondered why some of the logical suspects, the biggest names, one or more who attended Clinton's White House meetings on bioterror, were left out of the suspect list. Some logical suspects were never mentioned and never considered and certainly never paraded in the press.

Congress Requests Further Investigation Of 2001 Anthrax Case

By Paul West
The Baltimore Sun
3-1-10

A measure requiring further federal investigation into the 2001 anthrax attack that killed five people was approved Thursday by the House of Representatives. It was proposed by two skeptics of a recently closed FBI probe that blamed the deadly attacks on Bruce Ivins, a microbiologist at the Army biodefense lab at Fort Detrick in Frederick.

Maryland Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, who represents Frederick, and Democratic Rep. Rush Holt, from the New Jersey district where the anthrax letters were mailed, want the director of National Intelligence to investigate potential foreign connections to the attacks.

Ivins committed suicide in 2008 after coming under FBI scrutiny. "His colleagues say that he would not have done it," said Bartlett, who complained that Fort Detrick officials have refused to let him speak with scientists who work there. Holt said "many questions remain" about the FBI's handling of the case, including whether a foreign connection was "overlooked, ignored or not pursued."
