Changing The Face Of War
By Jim Kirwan
10-29-10

When the world entered the New Millennium, far too many of us were not prepared for all of the drastically altered situations; which the shift from a planet of nation-states to a planet ruled by multinational corporate states has already changed. Among these very real changes has been the face of 'WAR' itself.

When we think of government most people think of the clean white marble structures that housed the federal government in D.C. and either the White House or the Congress in particular. The above image however tends to reflect what has already happened to this 'feral-government' that has been totally dominated by the 51 percent of the world's leading economic units as opposed the 49 per cent of that same category that are still controlled by nation-states. I have no idea who created the piece of magic-realism above, but I included it here to show what too many of us now realize is the real truth behind this failed government of the once proud disunited states. This depicts the damage done by all the lies and deceptions that have been categorically tearing this country apart since we were dragged headlong into this 'new millennium.'

One of the principle forces in the most recent seizure of our lives has been the now permanent (yet still secret) makeover of the international Face of War. What most of the world used to think of when the subject of war arose were the images from the second world war of massive armies, and competing forces in uniformed conflicts that raged over the acquisition of territory and the victories and defeats that were public and necessary to the "progress" of those wars. 'War is Hell' the worldwide public was told; but until near the end of WWII; most civilians had not formerly been considered to be the real-targets of most military operations.

But after Hitler began the 24-7 bombing of London and while we tried to do the same to Berlin a new priority began to take shape. The firebombing of Tokyo, prior to the atom bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, matched in Europe by the joint British &American fire-bombing of the totally neutral city of Dresden began to open new chapters in how future military planners would come to view their profession during the practice of creating wars.

The treatment of prisoners on both sides in WWII also reflected a great deal of what has become possible in the new-millennium view of the use and abuse of prisoners, and civilians, as a major factors in the new-wars that we have waged from Korea all the way through to Iraq and Afghanistan-wherein the real targets of our wars have become the people of the countries we have attacked. The uniformed military has been vastly reduced as a weapon of war and replaced by privatized-mercenary-armies that slaughter and capture at will; with virtually no consideration at all of any actual complicity with the enemies we say we are "fighting."

Consequently where wars could be followed by people everywhere; through news reports of battles won or lost before: In today's world where everything is now secret-beyond-secret: Virtually nothing can be seen for what it apparently is anymore. We attacked Afghanistan, and six days into that war we had already run out of targets for our air forces to obliterate. We were then forced into a ground war that was totally unwinnable as we went from rock-pile to mountains to deserts against a nearly invisible enemy that we knew would outlast us. We had entered into the Twilight-Zone of ancient warfare in a place that has always defeated all that have tried to invade that place. Our weapons were nearly useless, and we had no idea of how to enlist the help of the natural allies that should have been made a part of that war-if we had been there to win a war. That however was never the case. we were there to subdue Afghanistan and make it safe for Unocal and its pipeline which is something that we finally figured out was something we could not militarily do-so Bush put Afghanistan on hold and moved over to Iraq to finish off Saddam for his daddy.

This gave the world a chance to revert to a much more familiar kind of war; with armies and battle-lines and air attacks and Shock & Awe but we'd been bombing Iraq 24-7 since the 1991 war began and Iraq had no real army, air-force of navy for us to fight against. So we tried again to initiate our new war-strategy about 'hearts & minds' which has turned out to be a colossal failure on every front.

As we were "AT WAR" the new policy involved taking prisoners, lots of prisoners. Because everyone remembered that in wars there are always prisoners taken. In WWII there were whole armies that surrendered and were held in prison camps. But in Iraq the army had surrendered and then been allowed to melt back into the population with their weapons and when we failed to give them jobs, they began using those weapons to attack our children-in-uniform very effectively.

This problem was solved by Rummy and his Pentagon by hiring private mercenaries that would do what US military personnel could not legally do. Spending night after night breaking into homes, murdering the occupants, and seizing the survivors which they sent en-mass to torture and detention even though only 2% of those that were tortured and detained had any military value at all to anyone. But we had secret-prisons; lots of them-to prove to a skeptical world that this was 'serious warfare' when the truth was we were building a new Shadow-Military to go with Cheney's Shadow-Government; and both were CLASSIFED as secret, supposedly to protect the national-security interests of the United States government-which was all just more lies that only served to widen the wars and keep the public in the dark.

Now with the release of the 400,000 documents we can see what really happened over there. The contractors or private-mercenary-forces have at least as large a force on the ground, and in some cases a larger force, than does the US military (this costs us a literal fortune in money) and it also costs us in the damage done to our reputation by a bunch of military-cowboys that are playing-out a fantasy of being Rambo-at -War with a vicious enemy when in fact they were making war on women & children, and not on armies with any weaponry beyond whatever they could find in the wastes of what was left of Iraq, after nineteen years of continuous warfare. That's where the roadside bombs, the IUD's, came from because Rummy would not send enough people to guard the thousands of ammo-dumps all over the country that were simply left there after the army surrendered.

The Iraqi's that fought did not want their country taken over by invaders, so they used the explosives to try and defend themselves against the occupation. This worked because Rummy and his stooges were so inept and ignorant as to how to fight this kind of war-that our uniformed troops began to be decimated by these homemade weapons which the US military refused to block-by simply guarding the weapons dumps throughout Iraq. The pentagon also refused to protect the targeted vehicles with enough armor to prevent the kinds of injuries that so many GI's will have to live with for life.

So with total military-incompetence on display, from the Pentagon all the way down through the general officer corp. on display for all to see The planners in the basement of the Tarnished House teamed-up with Cheney & Rummy to hire private-mercenaries to take the heat off the horrific military failures of their botched invasion of an already defeated Iraq.

By making every person still inside Iraq into a vicious and dangerous terrorist-the military could then legally (in their tiny-minds) begin to wage war on every single person inside that country: knowing full well when they did this that most people were simply trying to survive inside the country they had been born into that had now become the terror-target of the United States, even though they knew that the Iraqi population was no threat to us militarily? This left us with hundreds of thousands of mercenaries getting paid according to how many captured or killed in their nightly raids; as contrasted with US GI's that were charged with winning the hearts and minds of the survivors of these illegal nocturnal sweeps that tore the occupied country apart, and intensified the civil wars, that had grown up after the invasion itself.

In the absence of any real military-government in the country, despite having built the largest US Embassy in the world inside the Green Zone the chaos continues to mount, because the day-to-day wars being done by the mercenaries against the population are vindictively-vicious and brutally barbaric. The people they dealt with will "never forget" what these uniformed thugs did to them or to those they loved probably down to at least the next five generations: So much for "winning the hearts and minds." And this is just one of the wars where we've tried to totally change the face of war from making war upon a nation to slaughtering and decimating a population in the name of US National Security: Despite the proven facts that we had no business at all in invading Iraq in the first place!

Saddam had nothing whatever to do with either 911 or any impending attack upon the United States-yet even after this had been proven internationally, beyond any shadow of a doubt-nothing on the ground in Iraq has changed in any way, since the truth was revealed. Are we really that immune to the criminal behavior of this government? This is not something that happened only in Iraq. No-Israel, the self-proclaimed pit-bull of the world is now demanding that we attack Iran, Syria and Pakistan; because it is in their national interests to do this. The US, despite the fact that none of the three nations have any plans to attack us or Israel, is apparently planning to go ahead and do this. So instead of leaving Iraq the US is going to enter into three more Iraq's and try to do the same damned thing to their people as we did to Iraq, only more so!

What's wrong with this picture? Well for one thing nobody is asking the American public what they want to do. For another we don't have any money for anything much less to invade three more nations where again we won't be able to win. But there is a much larger question here. The US military has failed in Iraq and is now failing in Afghanistan. This is because of the near total incompetence of the US military and the yes-men generals that are supposedly leading the troops in these unilateral invasions that invariably become illegal occupations. These idiots are playing at war, maiming, displacing, torturing and murdering people that have next-to-nothing to do with the manufactured terror that we are supposed to be so incensed over.

The US military knowing that they have been ineffective have hired mercenaries at a hundred times the cost of the GI's, to "fight" these made-up wars-on-terror for us. To prove how dangerous this new threat is-we have created over 500 secret-prisons around the world where we can send people to be tortured secretly. On top of that we have created a legal limbo for anyone caught-up in this particular obscenity. We have still NOT closed Gitmo, as Obamanation promised he would do, before he became the new imposter to occupy that office. And instead of ending these wars, which the man from three countries promised he would do-he's expanded them. In Iraq he simply changed the names of the units serving there from combat organizations to peace-keeping ones. The people in the units along with all their weapons remain the same but the news release says that "all combat forces in Iraq have been sent home" Obama needs to PROVE IT!
"The criminal confinement at Gitmo, exists outside the bounds of all civilized practices and procedures, and has become known world-wide as an institution without rules: a place more suited to the practices and procedures of the Marquee De Sade, than to anything that has ever been routinely paid for by US taxpayers. Recently the Decider's lackeys; divulged what they thought of as a very revealing confession, by someone they say was one of the monsters behind 911. Of course that fraud backfired, big-time! Because anyone under torture for a number of years would of course confess to anything and everything, just to get the torture to stop: Which is why torture has been barred from US law, and practice. The man who designed these practices and procedures is non-other than the current US Attorney General, under fire for lying to Congress, and to the public about his role in the firing of eight US Attorneys.

Instead of giving him a lawyer, and bringing him before congress to "testify under oath" - let's just strip him of his name and send him to Guantánamo, where he can experience first hand the results of his handy-work. No charges need to be brought, no lawyers will be allowed, and he can just sit there for the rest of his life, being on occasion tortured, sodomized, beaten, starved - but hey - he designed all that so if it's good enough for other criminals, then it's damn well good enough for Roberto Gonzalez!" (1)

If we had a real military inside these countries, they would have real plans for winning the conflict and getting out. But we never did have an exit-strategy, because we never planned on leaving-and everybody "knows" this! The so-called terror-suspects that we've gathered in the millions are yet another farce, apparently collected to occupy those in the alphabet soup of spookdum to practice their black-arts of torture on, while they wait for a whole new crop from Iran, Pakistan and Syria.

What about the public-well they were heard from before the attack on Iraq. Twelve million turned out to protest, and then the attacks began-so much for governments caring what the public thinks. Where are they now-this same public that has now lost just about everything because they allowed these criminal actions to become standard operating procedure-with
apparently no-end-in-sight? That ladies and gentlemen is the Fourteen point eight Trillion-dollar question that must be answered very soon before the entire Enterprise begins to plunge into that huge and bottomless canyon that we are all approaching because we will not demand that the real troops come home, the mercenaries be disbanded and these wars be ended now.
