Footprints In The Sands Of Time
By Jim Kirwan

There was a time, before we became this place which we now occupy, when we were in our formative years. I'm using the term "we" here because "we" have accepted all the benefits of what we've done as a nation and yet many of us demand to be exempted from the negatives that being an American has come to mean today.

This hallowed ground began with the blood of slavery, oppression and murder-on-a-scale that no other nation in modern times has even come close to matching. We didn't count how many slaves we had, or how many were either worked to death, or tortured or just murdered. That war was hundreds of years long and is still very much alive today because it is no longer limited to people of color. The slaughter of the native population accounted for at least 59 million people. And that too continues to the present time.

It's been 224 years since the Constitution was signed, and as of June of 2004 we had invaded "other places," in our zeal to expand American Colonial power, over two-hundred different times. For those that demand "the facts" these are outlined fully and concisely in "Hope and Memory" the May/June issue of Adbusters magazine, number 53.

Manifest Destiny and the Monroe Doctrine were very prominent in our early days when we were very busy colonizing South, Central and North America, for the 'new' American Empire. Communication was difficult so when the rest of the world was told to leave this entire Hemisphere to us - it was basically ours to deal with as we saw fit. As colonial Europe had enough problems of their own to deal with; this American-abuse-of-power is pretty much what happened in the deepening shadows of the Western Hemisphere, at least until shortly after the Second World War.

In a video reenactment of Marine Major General Smedley Butler's infamous speech, an actor sums up Butler's 33 plus years serving the fledgling version of the New World Order, reading that speech that Butler actually gave upon his retirement. (1)

Throughout this entire phenomena that the world knew as The United States of America an entirely new kind of people were being trained and brainwashed to ensure that there would be no rebellion from within in this country, to virtually anything that "we" have done to any other people whether here or in any foreign land.

Instead of The Great Seal of the United States that is the core symbol for this country designed by the Federal Reserve system to adorn the money they illegally print for us-our national symbol ought to be the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse-because Conquest, War, Famine & Death have indeed become what this nation stands for today. Our so-called president is nothing more now than just another dictator taking orders from the truly corrupt in the Global New World Order.

How did this happen without so much as even a murmur of resistance in a nation so wealthy, and so theoretically powerful? It took quite a long time but it was not difficult because it was based solely on giving people what they had become convinced they wanted-the Great American Dream! Or as George Carlin so famously puts it:

"It's called the American Dream
Because you've got to be asleep to believe it!"

For most Americans "war" is something that now happens only to 'other people' in other places. Consequently Americans need not even consider the dangers or the risks of war, as they go about their business of chasing the American Dream. But for people that have known war, up-close and personal in their own countries war is something that must be watched very carefully so that it does not again threaten every-life; not just those things that might endanger the personal riches that have been acquired. This is why Europe and most of the rest of the world tend to view wars much differently than the self-satisfied Americans with their smug detachment from the blood and gore, not to mention all the crime and fortune building, in which they share as stockholders in the greatest war machine ever constructed in the world.

It is this difference that gave the German people the strength and determination recently to stop the train filled with 133 tons of nuclear waste; whereas Americans will not confront the forces of tyranny whenever they must-because Americans are incapable of understanding what's really at stake every time any government becomes an Outlaw against their own people. The German people just showed us how it should be done!
"17,000 police officers marched into the woods around the nuclear storage facility in Gorleben in northern Germany on Sunday morning looked invincible. Police personnel from France, Croatia and Poland had joined in the biggest security operation ever mounted against protestors against the a train carrying nuclear waste to a depot in an isolated part of Lower Saxony's countryside. Helicopters, water canons and police vehicles, including an armored surveillance truck, accompanied an endless column of anti-riot police mounted on horses and also marching down the railway tracks into the dense woods. Tens of thousands of anti riot police clattered along the tracks, their helmets and visors gleaming in the morning sun, and wearing body armor, leg guards and carrying batons.

But by Sunday night, those same police officers were begging the protestors for a respite.

Trapped in black, icy woods without supplies or reinforcements able to reach them because of blockades by a mobile fleet of farmer's tractors, the exhausted and hungry police officers requested negotiations with the protestors. A water cannon truck was blocked by tractors, and yet the police still had to clear 5000 people lying on the railway track at Harlingen in pitch darkness. The largest ever police operation had descended into chaos and confusion in the autumn woods of Lower Saxony, defeated by the courage and determination of peaceful protestors who marched for miles through woods to find places to lie down on the tracks and to scoop out gravel to delay the progress of the "the train from hell."

The police union head Reiner Wendt gave vent to the general frustration when he issued a press statement via the DPA news agency last night saying the police had reached exhaustion point and needed a break. Behind the scenes, a battle seemed to be raging between the police chiefs, tucked up in their warm headquarters urging more action, and the exhausted officers on the ground.

The police on the ground won out. The Castor train called a "Chernobyl on wheels" because it has been carrying 133 tons of highly radioactive waste to an unsafe depot was stopped in the middle of the countryside and NATO barbed wire was placed around it. Lit by floodlights and guarded by a handful of police, the most dangerous train on the planet was forced to a halt after a 63 hour journey across France and Germany." (2)

But this problem goes much deeper into the very psyche of Americans. What has been used to control us, just like lab-rats, is that government learned how to control us totally by using the desires that the Corporatocracy created, as bait, in tandem with this government to get us into the mental-cages that we now inhabit. Once a person comes to believe that they 'must have' something (a house, a car, some shares of stock or a credit card) they know that we are so determined to acquire the object of our artificial desire that we will do almost anything just "to have it." People are by-nature averse to complexity. Most want everything they think they need to know, to be reducible to a bumper-sticker: However every financial transaction of any size, is anything but simple-in fact most of these contracts are so difficult that most lawyers cannot understand what they supposedly say. Does this stop people from signing on the bottom-line: Of course not, because that might mean that they would be denied what they have come to believe they deserve and now must have!

This fallacy is especially true of what passes for their choices when it also comes to the everyday rights and wrongs they encounter in their lives. And assumptions about these rights and wrongs make up a huge part of what most people think 'they absolutely know.' Unfortunately when it comes to politics-in-America, this is the worst thing that anyone could ever assume today. But that is exactly what happened to the general population here, especially during these last ten years that are about to end our way of life.

The government of this country has existed in a shroud of near total secrecy since its inception and most people have no idea what kind of nightmare we have created for the rest of the world with our power-hungry grabs of other people's countries and other people's lives. Instead too many Americans simply assume that "We're the Good Guys, sure the government makes some mistakes but basically we're about freedom and democracy and we do what's right at the end of the day."

This is a massive lie built upon thousands of deceptions and the facts of so many illegal invasions and occupations throughout all of our so-called history. That would be the same history that has been scrupulously hidden from the public while the spin was sold as "the only truth that mattered" throughout the last 224 years (And even actually well before 1776 find the Adbuster's magazine and read it all).

When I was young, back in Oklahoma, the police in Oklahoma City decided that too many drivers were speeding and that because the cops were driving marked cars the cops weren't able to arrest enough drivers. So without telling the public about their plans they began to use unmarked cars in the dead of night to chase down speeding drivers. They pulled alongside the offending motorists and flashed a red hand-held spotlight on the driver while demanding that the offending vehicle "Pull Over!" But these were people that did not assume that government was 'on their side,' and what they saw were not 'cops' but highjackers or thieves-so instead of pulling over some drivers simply took their own weapons from under the seat, laid the barrel of the weapon on the windowsill and blasted the dark cars with the several large men in them, that had tried to stop them. Some cops died, there was publicity, and the public was enraged: The law was changed because some people did not do as they were told-instead they did what they believed was needed to keep themselves alive and the situation improved. This is what is now absent in the world of 2010.

Why this difference between working people inOklahoma City in the 1950's and the working people of today? I was one of those who was taught to 'question everything' and especially those things that involved "The Law." I understood early on that Laws are not sacred; they were written by men and women and could be changed by men and women. As time passed I came to understand that law and justice are two very different things. The "LAW" has nothing to do with justice or fairness or even outcomes: The Law is a game that is played out in a courtroom by rules that the judge decides on as to which facts and which events shall be admitted into "the case" that is before him or her.

We no longer have any system of justice because those that write the laws and those that supposedly enforce the laws do not need to obey the laws: That's because these laws were made to control us and do not to apply to those who created them. We have been captured by our own system that was supposed to have been created to protect us. The sword of justice bisects the gavel that symbolizes the bench, and is embraced by the fire of that passion for justice which is never allowed into any courtroom-even though it is that passion that created the need for "justice" in any viable society, anywhere in the world. This truth has existed from pre-recorded history right up through today's global-system that is failing everywhere that it still exists!

This is why George Bush can admit to waterboarding which is a violation of international and federal laws and not even be hindered as he goes about the country signing his new book. This is also why Bush can admit in print that there were no 'Weapons of Mass Destruction" in Iraq and yet the war, despite the fact that Bush has admitted there was no reason for that war, goes on and on even to this day and no one is charged with this massive war-crime. The reason is simple. Those who make the laws believe they are immune to those laws whenever they find it convenient to break the same laws that are supposed to apply to everyone in this country equally.

Cheney, Rumsfeld, Biden, Obama, Bush, and dozens of others are all war-criminals and they have individually and collectively sold out the interests of this country either for private profits or to the direct military or financial-interests of foreign nations: Yet nothing is done about it-because Americans have raised their leaders to the level of mini-gods-and the rest of us let them get away with it!

Again this goes back to assumptions which the public too often makes. I've been watching and commenting on politics for over half a century and one of the most disgusting things about this country's 'people' is that before the elections the candidates can be treated as the fools they truly are. But after elections the office-holders suddenly become omnipotent all-knowing "leaders." Their names must be mentioned only in hushed and reverential tones and their thoughts become veritable pearls of wisdom from some holy place that we mortals are far too dumb to ever fathom. All of whatever they do is then wrapped up in flags and the razor-wire of National Security where everything they do is suddenly unknowable to the commoners and must never be spoken of, much less challenged thoroughly on all fronts, in public, and open to the world for discussion. Because of these things; this nation has bought into the most fantastically-created, and effective-self-destruction of a nation that has ever happened.

This is nothing more than the most massive transfer of wealth in history. To see this just look at Executive Pay, the Bottom Line for those at the top (from 2008). The article did a comparison on stock prices and their dollar intake and found that as it went up the stocks went down (some were off as much as 41% during that time frame). (3)

This shift of wealth from those that made such wealth possible to those that do nothing but fire people, move their companies offshore and steal the assets which they call creative-management is a crime against us all. And for this they demand the highest amounts in compensation which the world has ever seen-while those that work to create these monstrous corporate entities are simply thrown into the streets or fed to the wolves of callous and uncontrolled capitalism that still hungers for whatever might still remain of whatever we might still have between ourselves and the end of our lives.
We're having so much trouble understanding these problems because we do not grasp the fact that this government's job is to bring about the end-of-us: It is not there to help solve our problems or keep us alive-it seeks to kill us!

There is no time for most to "get-up-to-speed on this most basic of all the threats that we face today. The thugs of this administration have begun to kick down the doors of this society while they Taser, torture and murder people each and every day; without even keeping track of how many they have done these things to. "The public wants answers!" - They say. The public is worried about "Who are these people!" But what matters is what will happen to every one of us if we do not deal with these intruders-in-uniform when they come to take us away, or worse.

When you call the police because of a real threat upon your life; even if the police do not show up-it is still your job as a person to save your own life. Society delegated your protection to the police-but the society that did that did not envision a time when the police might be the ones kicking in your door. At the end of the day staying alive is everyone's responsibility: To do that successfully you need to know who is on your side and who is not! Why not take another look at what you think this world is really made of?

One thing is certain; we shall leave no footprints in the sands of time; because if we continue doing what we're doing now there won't be anything here to fight over for at least another million years.
