Well, Dennis, you were
in the military and so there's little question that you may justifiably
have anti Jane Fonda feelings. Emotions aside, which is very difficult
when your country is fighting a war, but if if it is a war that was
entirely illegal, and the causes to enter it faked by our leaders with
the phony Gulf of Tonkin resolution, what does one do? So, now
that even Conservatives agree with that, let's, as Jack Webb used to
say, 'Let's just look at the facts!' John Kerry railed and demonstrated
against it before Congress, returning his medals, as did literally thousands
of other vets who fought there, a fight by the way assiduously avoided
by George Bush and Dick Cheney who sought deferments five times. Even
Clinton avoided it!. Later Leaders who were quick to send thousands
of other young men off to fight more illegal wars!
So, if it was illegal, as we all now know, who are the real heroes,
and who are the real patriots, that is if you consider being true to
the constitution patriotic! And who are the real traitors and cowards?
The real traitors were Johnson and MacNamara and Humphries, The
Joint Chiefgs of Staff, the CIA, et al. Truly, according to Nurenberg,
war criminals! And the real cowards: all those in Government and the
Media who supported and encouraged this horrible lie. And at the top
od the Media list, those reporters who had the means to inform us, but
who were too career driven and cowardly to do so. That includes Walter
Cronkite..and Barbara Walters and their ilk!
The war was only ended because hundreds of thousands of Americans voted
with their feet and bodies all over the country and the world to stop
it...partially because it was illegal, and partially because their class
was being drafted and killed!
So, now you're a famous movie star! You have the attention of the world!
You know the wrongness of this horror! And you make millions! Even more
than Barbara Walters! Do you go public and jeopardize your career and
maybe even your life? Would you have the kind of courage to go against
your country's government and media and the millions who believed the
lie? I certainly wouldn't. Do you know anybody at all who would? I
do. Jane Fonda!
While she may have certainly gone overboard in many of her actions;
it was going overboard for peace, not War!! Dr. Stragelovian idiots
with a chest full of medals at the Pentagon, like Curtis LeMay,
(who hated JFK by the way for his cautious stance on Viet Nam,) wanted
to nuke Viet Nam, a country that is still supposedly Communist, but
an ally!
I'm no psychiatrist but I'll tell you very simply why Barbara Walters
and others still in those meaningless media seats hate Jane Fonda.
She is a living reminder of what cowards they themselves
were when they knew all the facts and did nothing!
As for Jane getting some kind of medal from the President, I don't think
that's a very good idea; not that she doesn't deserve the Nobel Peace
prize, which she does, mores than Obama ever did, her image still conjures
up unpleasant emotional memories in a citizenry that still has a hard
time dealing with the historical facts, the facts that Leaders Lie!!
And oddly enough, it was an almost off the cuff comment on the air by
Walter Cronkite, that began the end of the war; he just said casually,
'This war is unwinable!' And the end started!!! He never said
it was illegal until years later when he was off the air, and it was
safe to be a hero and speak the truth! Well after the facts, they're
all pathetic heroes!!
