Fifty Years of Illegal Israeli
|In 1948, Israel stole 78% of historic Palestine. Fifty years ago this
June, it took the rest, including East Jerusalem.
Endless settlement construction continues on stolen Palestinian land for exclusive Jewish development and use.
Militarized occupation brutalizes a defenseless population. Besieged Gazans are terrorized in the world’s largest open-air prison - savagely attacked at Israel’s discretion, committing mass slaughter and destruction unaccountably.
Every day is Kristallnacht in Occupied Palestine. Institutionalized racism enforces state terror.
Fear is constant. Collective punishment is official policy. Justifiable resistance for justice is considered terrorism.
Peaceful public demonstrations are violently assaulted. Free expression and movement are prohibited.
Population centers are isolated, borders closed, normal daily life denied.
Economic strangulation enforces poverty, deprivation and human misery. Slow-motion genocide exacts an unrelenting toll.
Fundamental civil and human rights are consistently denied. Palestinians face daily neighborhood incursions, bulldozed homes, separation walls, checkpoints, ethnic cleansing, targeted assassinations, mass arrests, kidnappings, gulag imprisonment, torture, judicial unfairness, and other forms of mistreatment.
Fishermen are attacked at sea. So are farmers in their fields. Israeli soldiers along Gaza’s border shoot children for target practice.
Crops and orchards are destroyed, homes and other property vandalized. Soldiers and police commit crimes against Palestinians with impunity. So do racist settlers.
Thousands of Palestinians languish under gulag harshness, enduring virtually form of brutality and indignity imaginable, including physical and psychological torture, intimidation, humiliation and insults, threats of sexual violence and attacks on family members.
They’re denied due process, judicial fairness, proper healthcare, education and contacts with family members.
They suffer from deliberate neglect and mistreatment. Appalling conditions including overcrowding, poor sanitation, extreme heat in summer or cold in winter.
Young children and women are treated as brutally as men. An entire population is held hostage to Israeli viciousness.
Geneva and other international laws are systematically breached.
On April 17, Palestinian Prisoners Day, commemorated annually since 1979, the Palestinian Center for Human Right (PCHR) said “the suffering of the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli prisons has exacerbated due to the Israeli violations and punitive measures taken against them.”
“These prisoners are regularly subject(ed) to (virtually every imaginable type of) cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.”
“PCHR, on this day, draws attention to the increasing violations committed against the Palestinian prisoners and the poor conditions under which they live in view of the Israeli authorities’ insistence to violate the rules of the international humanitarian law and principles of human rights to which Israel is a state party.”
International community silence and indifference let its rogue leadership get away with murder, torture and other high crimes.
PCHR and other dedicated human rights groups provide Palestinians and their families with vital legal aid - hoping one day their longstanding nightmare will end.
Palestinian Prisoners Day is a reminder of the horrific suffering they’ve endured.
