Denver's 420 The Aftermath

After several days of decent spring weather, dreary, cold, rainy clouds drifted across the Denver metro last Thursday. Still, the 420 celebration was right on time with tens of thousands lighting up at exactly 4:20 PM. It was peaceful, but one gunshot was heard. In a crowd of that size, I'm sure the Police had a fun time trying to investigate that crime. Wonder how many tickets they wrote for public consumption? Wonder if Sessions and other swamp creatures were watching in DC?

Worldwide, 4:20 celebrations demonstrate that the legalization movement is now unstoppable. After years of hard work by so many dedicated people, it's finally what the vast majority of people want.

After the event was over, the organizers cleaned up the trash into large plastic bags and went home for the night, planning to come back Friday morning to get the bags. Later, as one theory goes, some starving homeless people raided the bags in search of food. They left a pretty nasty mess that upset many people, especially considering Earth Day was just a few hours in the future. The blame is likely to be cast upon the event organizers who posted a sizable cash bond ($3800.00), insuring that the park be returned in the condition it was before. A popular alternative theory is the Russians did it using hungry bears. Sure looks like bear damage to me.

Denver is blessed with many beautiful parks, but Civic Center is the crown jewel with great looking scenery any way you look, except the construction of a brand new Civic Center Station where you can get on a bus to just about anywhere. It will look great when finished, but is a mess right now.

Hopefully, many people learned a lesson about the concept, "take your trash with you when leaving," if no receptacle is provided. This is the law in state and national parks and even if it wasn't, good people will take care of their own trash.

Our Cannabis un-friendly Mayor Hancock is now "outraged." Next year's 420 celebration will likely be held somewhere else. Bummer......

LATEST GOOD NEWS FROM DENVER

It's a widely known fact among Veterans that medical Cannabis is a far better treatment for PTSD than anything else out there. It works miracles for many, saving our Vets from suffering and suicide. Most legal states recognize it for participation in their medical programs. PTSD isn't just for Veterans, crime victims, especially in cases of domestic violence, rape, shootings and the like are often diagnosed with PTSD. Strangely, the Colorado Health Dept. has ignored the pleadings from Veterans groups since medical was legalized here. Seems the State Senate has tackled this issue by passing a new bill adding PTSD to the list of qualifying conditions. It's expected to be signed by Gov. Hickenlooper. Victory at last!

The Denver City Council has approved a change in hours for retail shops and dispensaries. The old rules allowed them to open at 9:00 AM and close at 7:00 PM. The new rules specify closing at 10:00 PM. Like many big cities, the Denver Metro area is composed of of many small towns that were swallowed up by growth. They are separate political entities with their own mayor, council, police, etc. State law allows them to set their own open and close times, a few as late as 11:00 PM. This positive change will level the playing field and save some night owls a drive across town.
