Fair? - Oz Nurse Flown To
UK While Mr. Baker Left To Die

Hello Jeff - Since my tax dollars are being used to pay for these flights from Africa to the first world, I feel that a better and more fair choosing process be implemented.

The Australian nurse flown to the UK by the CDC Phoenix Air last Saturday has a very low risk of developing Ebola. On the other hand, the hero who has saved hundreds of Ebola orphans died in Sierra Leone without any flight to the first world or even experimental medication like ZMapp.

Most of the flights over the past two months have been to bring nurses and HCWs with low risk of developing Ebola.  They are brought to the US or Europe for 21 day observation due to things like needle sticks.

Where as Mr. Augustine Baker, who severed his country and the children orphaned by Ebola, and who developed Ebola Virus Disease died of the disease without any attempt to fly him to the US or UK.  This seems very unair.

I think, especially since tax payers are paying a high price for the flights, that the choice process needs to be more fair and also should only consist of patients already diagnosed with Ebola.  Bringing patients who might have low risk exposure to Ebola and come to the US for 21 day observation is unfair to those whose lives could be saved from Ebola.

An Australian Nurse Remains Under Ebola Watch In UK Hospital

The nurse — whose name hasn’t been released for privacy reasons — was transferred to the UK from Sierra Leone on Saturday following a “low-risk clinical incident” at the Australian-managed Ebola Treatment Centre (ETC) there, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has said.

A medical assessment in the UK determined the risk of the nurse developing the deadly disease remained low.

Ms Bishop said the nurse would undergo “a highly precautionary” 21-day observation.
