| There’s an old joke. A comedian says to the straight
man, “Ask me what’s the most important thing in comedy?” The straight man shrugs, like ‘okay, I’ll play along.’ The straight man says, “What’s the most imp…” “TIMING!!” The comedian blurts this out before the sentence can even be uttered. It is quite funny. As in comedy, timing is everything in politics. And politics in America these days is a grotesque joke. So I am watching the scheduling of news events this week. Here we see that on Thursday in Las Vegas Obama will announce his intent to unilaterally order the US government to cease enforcing federal law and allow millions of illegal aliens to remain in the US and be rewarded for violating the law. Oh, and it just so happens that on Friday the grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri will most likely announce a decision on whether to indict a white police officer for shooting and killing an unarmed black teenager. Obama’s cronies, minions and henchmen have already been stirring that pot. You can bet the CNN and Fox news graphics departments already have the video “opens” ready for this event. Probably a montage of shots including the black victim, maybe a blurry shot of someone hurling a Molotov cocktail, national guard troops. They’ll use a bold font, maybe in blood red, something like FURY IN FERGUSON, or FEAR IN FERGUSON. They already have the music bed recorded, something stark, tense and ominous. So at the first sign of trouble, they'll come out of commercial and play this open, the grim music, the pre-produced video montage and the title will spill across the screen: THE FERGUSON RIOTS. (Would they dare use SHOWDOWN IN THE SHOW ME STATE?) So watch for this over the next 48 hours. Obama announces amnesty for invading criminals on Thursday. It plays big for a few hours. Republicans will stomp their feet and squawk and cluck and threaten to hold their breath until they turn blue. It will be good theater for a few hours. And then on Friday the Ferguson decision will come out and all hell will break loose. The illegal alien amnesty will be forgotten news. Let’s go live to our crew in Ferguson… It’s a dark comedy. |
