Why Bill O'Lielly Is A Piece Of Sh*t

One day ago I posted a piece celebrating Fox's 19th birthday. I meant it. Fox has held the line against Political Correctness in a way that has delayed a full-blown PC tyranny. Bill O'Reilly, on the face of it, has been a part of that. But today I watched footage of him that made me realise anew that he is part of the problem, not part of the solution. Bill O'Reilly, as I've already pointed out, is a liar. Liars do not help the cause of freedom. By their lies, they discredit it, and thereby set it back.

Bill O'Lielly lied about hearing the self-inflicted gunshot wound of George de Mohrenschildt, on the eve of his (de Mohrenschildt's) testimony before the House Committee on Assassinations that was looking into the murder of John F. Kennedy. O'Lielly wasn't there. The suicide took place in Florida. O'Lielly was in Texas at the time, and when he heard about it, phoned someone to ask about it, in conversations that are on tape.

When someone brazenly lies, as O'Lielly has, I think one is entitled to doubt everything he says.

Now, O'Lielly has published a book about President Ronald Reagan, the greatest American President of the twentieth century. It's called Killing Reagan, just as the book in which he lied about hearing the suicide shot of a friend of JFK's alleged assassin was called Killing Kennedy. Full disclosure: I have not read the book, and, given O'Lielly's track record, will not. But I've watched interviews where O'Lielly talks about it. It is clearly a shameless attempt to make money by claiming that Reagan was affected by Alzheimer's while he was President.

Now, Reagan left office in 1988. In his eight years as President, he rebuilt America's military, sparked an unprecedented economic boom, won the Cold War, and restored the sheen to "the shining city on the hill." For that, he will never be forgiven by the illiberals whom O'Lielly affects to despise. Here is Reagan in 1992, four years after he left office. This is a man who at the age of 81 can deliver a speech far better than O'Lielly can. As a professional broadcaster, and as one who has dealt directly with Alzheimer's in my family, I know that the cleverness of Reagan's selective emphases could not be performed by someone who had had the disease for years, or even one year. Reagan was diagnosed two years after this, and was still lucid enough to write a handwritten note to the American public telling them about the diagnosis.

O'Lielly is cashing in on Reagan's corpse. He is beyond disgusting. Americans, I know you're Useless Inert Nothings when it comes to defending your founding principles and those who uphold them, but please, on this occasion, out of love for your greatest President in our lifetimes, could you just try, for a moment or two?! Boycott the book, and let O'Lielly know why you're doing so!
