| Dear Thomas, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has long been NumbersUSA's strongest ally in the U.S. Senate. Now, he's been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be the U.S. Attorney General. Sen. Sessions led the opposition in Congress to amnesties under both President Bush and President Obama, and he said this about NumbersUSA on the Senate floor: "The big lobbies pulled out all the stops, spent millions of dollars, and bore down hard in their push for mass amnesty. But Goliath fell to the grassroots David, whose faxes, e-mails, rallies, visits to our offices, and phone calls registered the clear message that the American people would not accept Washington rewarding lawbreaking. The overwhelming grassroots response actuated by the NumbersUSA coalition was most evident when citizens called Capitol Hill in such volume that it shut down the Senate's telephone system... I commend NumbersUSA for speaking out effectively on these important issues for America. Their voice has added a valuable perspective to the discussion." -- Attorney General nominee Sen. Jeff Sessions That's how good of a friend Sen. Sessions has been to NumbersUSA. His nomination is an historic victory for those of us who seek to reduce immigration and reassert the rule of law in America. Yet amidst all this happy news, I'm writing to make an urgent plea to all of our supporters: Help us keep up the fight. The open-borders crowd isn't going to simply slink away into the darkness. They are never going to stop fighting, and they will wage their war in every branch of government and every institution of society. Now that we know that victory is still possible, wouldn't it be terrible if NumbersUSA wasn't around any more to keep up the fight? Our constant struggles with the Obama administration -- and open-borders zealots in Congress -- have left us with few reserves to carry on our fight. There's so much we can accomplish together for the good of our nation. "The 7 million members of NumbersUSA's advocacy network are sure to be as thrilled with [Sen.] Sessions as Attorney General as they have with his role as the Senate's great champion for immigration policies that favor America's working women and men. In our many years of working with him, he has always astonished us with his hard work and dedication to that cause... Our members tend to call him 'America's Senator.'"With the support of President-elect Trump, Sen. Sessions can now do so much to enforce current immigration laws. Sessions would be able to accomplish as head of the U.S. Justice Department: He could crack down on fraudulent use of visas. He would be in charge of defending in court the immigration policies under the Trump administration. He could find ways to choke off Department of Justice funding for sanctuary cities. He would oversee immigration courts. He could aggressively prosecute employers who hire illegal aliens. But he won't be able to do any of these things if he doesn't get confirmed. We're pushing for more than merely getting him confirmed, though. We want to demonstrate an outpouring of support for him, and the policies he believes in, to embolden the entire Trump administration, and the foot-draggers in Congress. Help us support Sen. Sessions' immigration agenda, and win the battles in Congress needed to secure the funding, and enforcement means he needs to succeed. Obviously, America needs Sen. Sessions as Attorney General, and America needs NumbersUSA to defend him when necessary and back him up once he's in office. Help us return so many favors to Sen. Sessions by fighting for our common agenda. |
