- The past few days have revealed one or two disturbing
trends that have impact upon all of us. First, images are lost from the
Hubbell Space Telescope in mysterious circumstances, followed within days
by a rumour from no directly attributable source that images from SOHO
satellite, in particular C3 images of the Sun are to be curtailed
forthwith.
At the same time, Solar images from a Japanese solar
satellite [Yohkoh]
have also been suspended, so what are we to make of
all these problems?
-
- C3 images show the Sun from a wide angle and allow us
to view the Sun covered by a disk. Energy from the sun is clearly visible
round the disc, as are the sky and background round the Sun. On several
C3 images since May 1998 we have seen glimpses of several large objects
in various places and distances from the Sun. They are visible on one
C3 image, and a few hours later the same shot is clear. There have been
occasions when there is more than one object in view.
-
- Opinions as to what these
enigmatic objects may be are
many and varied, and it is interesting
that they only show up on C3 images,
which are now to be lost from
view.
-
- Direct questions such as " Will the images be restored"?
"Are there reasons why C3 images are to be removed", resulted
in the following 'helpful' reply from Mr George Dimitoglou.

- Subject: Sun images.
-
- Many people have laboured for
years to write the software
that enables the images to go from the
instruments on-board the spacecraft
to the WWW so scientists,
teachers, students and people who have interest
in science and SOHO
can use the SOHO data from anywhere in the world.
-
- I assure you, SOHO, LASCO and
the policy to display *EVERYTHING*
we get from the spacecraft on the
WWW is here to stay.

- Nice answer, but it
says nothing at all of value. We
can only hope that this stated policy
does continue at some time later,
but for the present we have hope
that we do see something later.
-
- At the sametime as Satellite feeds are cut substantial
increases in all forms of unusual phenomena are occurring round the globe.
Bright sky flashes which light up large area of land. Travelling
fireballs
rush though the sky. UFO sightings increase so much that
researches who
have years of experience are working 17 hours days
answering questions
from hundreds of people. Could there be links
between all this very different
occurrences? Perhaps so. The best way
to dispel suspicion is to be honest
with everyone about what is going
on and resume all available satellite
feeds now. Of course if ET has
switched off the satellites for us down
here, we may be in for some
trouble!
